The island of Cres is the second largest island in the Adriatic Sea. Cres's beautiful inlets, clear blue sea and fabulous beaches will make your holiday an unforgettable one. The island has amongst the highest diversity of flora among the Adriatic islands which includes among 1,300 plant species including endemic and rare plants.

At the heart of the island is the city of Cres . In the city of Cres you will see many remains from Roman and Venetian times as well as from the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. Some of its cultural-historical monuments include churches, patrician palaces, monasteries and ruins which witnessed Cres's stormy past. Along with the city of Cres, are the towns Lubenice , Valun , Martinscica , Miholascica , Osor , Ustrine and Vrana.

The mythology of the Island dates back to the Greek Classical Period and the story of Apsyrtus. When Jason and the Argonauts were searching for the Golden Fleece, Apsyrtus met his death on the shores of Cres Island from Jason, who was betrayed by his own sister Medea. Due to this story, the Island was once known as Apsyrtides.
